Ensin uudesta Extendedistä:

I asked Scott what expectations he had for this newly birthed Extended format. The previous Extended format was not an option for Friday Night Magic tournament organizers—would this more consumer-friendly version be coming to a WPN location near you sometime soon?

"That is one of the things we are looking at," he replied. "I don't expect that overnight there will be Extended tournaments popping up all over the world. That is not the plan here. The long term plan is to make the new Extended format more popular than the current Extended. What I would like to see is this format become more widely played than Legacy. - -

Uusi Extended vaikuttaisi tulevan "introvaiheen" jälkeen FNM-formaatiksi. WotCin bisnessuunnitelma tuntuu toimivan, sillä jo yksistään tässä ketjussa tuntuu IMO olevan enemmän formaatista kiinnostuneita suomalaisia pelaajia sekä asiallista keskustelua uudesta Extendedistä, kuin koko valtakunnassa on pitkiin aikoihin ollut vanhasta Extendedistä.


Sitten Legacystä:

Mielenkiintoista olisi kuitenkin lukea wizardsin ja/tai muiden "ammattilaisten" mielipiteitä, analyyseja
ja perusteita miksi juurikin mystical tutor päätettiin bänniä nyt.

We discovered something rather interesting, and that is that Mystical Tutor decks were quite rare at Legacy tournaments that did not have tons of money on the line. At Grand Prix and other cash tournaments, people were happy to bust out their Mystical Tutorss. However, in the comfort of their home stores they seemed to prefer doing other things that were more fun, if perhaps less powerful. This struck me as being a sort of gentleman's agreement; everyone knew what sick decks were out there, but they chose not to play them.

Mystical Tutor often allowed [Reanimator and ANT] to heap resiliency on the hate at very little cost by adding only a single card like Show and Tell or Wipe Away—and they could Mystical Tutor for them.

Sama vapaasti suomeksi solkattuna: WotCin empiirisen tutkimuksen mukaan MT-dekeillä mentiin ainoastaan rahaturnauksiin, mutta niillä ei haluttu pelata kasuaalisti. Siispä MT todettiin "ilonpilaajaksi", jonka bännääminen tulisi todennäköisesti mahdollistamaan aiempaa useamman pakkatyypin menestymisen Legacyssä. Kaiken lisäksi MT teki anti-hate-korttien 1-of-pelaamisen liian helpoksi. Käytetty esimerkki Reanimaattorin 1-of SnT:stä ja bouncesta mainissa, sekä sideboard täynnä 1-of instantteja ja sorceryitä kaikkiin mahdollisiin tarkoituksiin on hyvin osuva.

ANT menee enemmän tai vähemmän uusiksi ja saattaa vaihtaa samalla nimeäkin, mutta en usko storm-combon kuolevan Legacystä kokonaan. Reanimaattorilta korahti ainoastaan sideboard plan, sillä Reanimaattorin MD ei koskaan pyörinyt MT:n ansiosta vaan pikemminkin MT:sta huolimatta. Korvasipa MT:n cantripeilla, redundancyllä taikka huonommilla tutor-efekteillä, niin fakta on että Reanimaattorin side tulee jatkossa olemaan enimmäkseen 4-offeja, jotka nousevat ilman MT:tä huonommin kuin aiemmat 1-offit MT:n kanssa.
