Lyhyt vastaus: "Play this card without paying its mana cost" tarkoittaa ainoastaan ettet maksa kortin normaalia mana costia, mutta muiden efektien aiheuttamat ylimääräiset maksut joudut silti maksamaan. Lotus Bloomista täytyy siis maksaa 1.

Pitkään vastaukseen liittyy pari erikoistapausta liittyyen siihen onko kortti pakko pelata jos se vaatii ylimääräisiä maksuja - normaalistihan kun kortti tulee suspendista, se on pakko pelata vaikkei haluaisi. Alla oleellinen kohta Time Spiralin FAQista:
